Scapia launches its first ESOP buyback, worth ₹20 crore

Finlaunch Newsdesk · 20 July 2026

Travel fintech Scapia will let eligible employees sell up to 10% of their vested stock options, two months after a $63 million Series C.

Scapia, a travel-focused credit card startup based in Bengaluru, announced its first employee stock option (ESOP) buyback, worth ₹20 crore. Eligible employees can sell up to 10% of their vested options. The buyback comes about two months after Scapia raised $63 million in a Series C round in May. It raised a $40 million Series B in April 2025.

In an ESOP buyback, the company or its investors buy vested employee shares for cash, usually at a price tied to the latest funding valuation. Scapia joins other startups that have run buybacks this year, including Cashfree Payments. Cashfree's programme covered more than 400 current and former employees.

Why it matters for unlisted-share investors

ESOP buybacks and secondary sales let employees turn shares into cash without waiting for an IPO or acquisition. They also show the price at which a private company's shares change hands, which can be useful context when looking at private-market valuations.
