Jio Platforms receives the regulator's observations on its draft IPO papers

Finlaunch Newsdesk · 29 August 2026

Reliance said Jio Platforms received the regulator's observation letter on 28 August for its IPO of new shares only, which could be India's largest public issue.

Reliance Industries told the stock exchanges that Jio Platforms received the market regulator's observation letter on its draft prospectus on 28 August 2026. The letter is the regulator's response to a draft prospectus and a required step before a company can launch its IPO. Jio filed the draft on 19 June. It proposes to issue up to 27 crore new shares of ₹10 face value through book-building. No existing shareholder is selling in the offer.

Up to ₹27,500 crore of the money raised is to go towards repaying debt at Reliance Jio Infocomm, and the rest to general corporate purposes. Reliance will stay the controlling shareholder with 66.43%. In FY26, Jio Platforms reported revenue from operations of about ₹1,46,885 crore and a profit after tax of about ₹30,049 crore. Estimates reported after the regulator's observations put the issue at around ₹37,700 crore.

Why it matters for unlisted-share investors

The offer includes shares reserved for eligible Reliance shareholders and employees. Its size could shape overall IPO supply and demand in the coming months. Unlike NSE's IPO, all the money goes to the company, which shows how IPOs can be structured differently.
